Privacy policy: MP Engagement Research
Last updated: 23 October 2026
Who we are. 4 Year Terms Australia (ABN 16 208 534 640), an Australian organisation that campaigns for four-year federal parliamentary terms, researches Australian federal politics and publishes the newsletter Inner West Insider. Contact: marty@4yearterms.au.
What this covers. This policy covers our research app “MP Engagement Research”, which uses Meta’s Graph API to read publicly available information from the official Facebook Pages of Australia’s federal members of parliament and senators.
What we collect. For each public post on those Pages: when it was published, its type, its link, and the total number of reactions, comments and shares. For each Page: its name and follower count.
What we don’t collect. We don’t collect the text of comments, the names or profiles of people who react or comment, or any other information about Facebook users. We don’t use Facebook Login and don’t collect anything from people who use Facebook.
How we use it. To compare, month by month, how much engagement members of parliament’s public communications receive. We don’t use it for advertising, profiling, contacting anyone, or any decision about an individual. We don’t sell the data or share it with anyone other than the two service providers named below. Any analysis we publish reports only Page-level totals for elected representatives.
Where it’s kept and for how long. On our own computer, with a monthly backup copy in our Google Drive account (Google LLC). We also analyse it with Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic PBC. These are the only service providers that have access to it. We keep the monthly totals as a historical record. We delete data about a Page on request from that Page’s owner.
Deleting data. To ask us to delete data about a Page, email marty@4yearterms.au with the Page’s name or address. We’ll confirm deletion within 30 days. (The same instructions are at 4yearterms.au/data-deletion.)
Meta. Data obtained through Meta’s platform is handled in line with Meta’s Platform Terms and Developer Policies.
Changes. We’ll update the date above when this policy changes.
